When an abundance of material reveals the path towards subtraction.
Some works no longer exist today in their physical form. Yet they were a full part of my journey and continue to reveal some of its stages.
These images show the works in an interior setting. They invite us to imagine their presence in a room, their relationship with light, the colour of a wall, the quiet of a space and the objects around them.
These works bear witness to a period when material was more abundant. I added more relief, traces, movement and reworking. I was still searching through accumulation, allowing the surface to build gradually.
Today, my work has shifted. I remove more. I seek to preserve only the material that is necessary, while giving more space to white, silence, thresholds and breathing.
This restraint is not a break with the earlier works. It is the result of a journey. I had to pass through addition and abundance to understand, little by little, what could be removed without the work losing its presence.
To look at these earlier works is therefore to observe what remains and what has changed. Some forms have disappeared; others have returned in a different way.
A work may no longer exist physically and yet still belong to the journey.
